Monstera: Cozy Plant Game Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 24, 2026
Monstera: Cozy Plant Game is a living Monstera plant you care for on your phone, made by MightyS. This page explains, for this app only, what leaves your phone, where it goes and why. It supersedes the general MightyS privacy policy for Monstera.
1. Overview
- Monstera has no account and no sign-in. Your plant, its name, your room and your choices live on your phone.
- Monstera shows no advertising, contains no advertising or tracking SDK, and never sells or shares your data for advertising. It does not track you across apps or websites.
- A few things must use the internet: finding your town roughly, the weather in Live mode, finding a town that is not in the built-in list, and purchases. Each is listed below with exactly what is sent.
- Your photos never leave your phone.
2. What leaves your phone, and why
| When | What is sent | To whom | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| When the app starts and you have not chosen a town yourself | A request from your internet connection. Like any internet request, it carries your IP address. Nothing else is added. | ipwho.is (ipwhois.io) | To find your town roughly, so your Monstera gets the sun and seasons of your place. The answer (town, country, rough coordinates) is kept only on your phone. Once you choose a town, this stops. You can also ask for it yourself with "Use my connection". |
| Only in the Live realism setting (the app starts in Seasons) | The position of your Monstera's town, rounded to 2 decimal places (about 1 km), the app's name and version, and your IP address as part of the request. At most once an hour per place. | MET Norway (api.met.no), the Norwegian Meteorological Institute | To get today's weather forecast for that town. The forecast is kept on your phone. |
| On iPhone and iPad, only when you search for a town that is not in the built-in list | The name you type | Apple, through the Maps geocoding service on your device | To find that town. The town you pick is kept on your phone. |
| When you buy or restore Greenhouse or the coffee | Your purchase request | Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) | Apple or Google handle the payment. Monstera never sees your card, name or billing address. On your phone, the app reads which products are active and when they end, to unlock Greenhouse. |
| When you open a link (Contact, Privacy, Terms, Manage subscription) | The link opens in your browser | That website | You chose to open it. |
Your location. Monstera never follows your location. Only if you tap "Use my location once", it reads your location one time and stops at once. The reading becomes the nearest town and a position rounded to 2 decimal places, stored on your phone. That position is sent only to MET Norway, and only in Live, to ask for that town's weather. You can always choose a town from the list instead; location permission is never required.
3. How we use data
Only for the reason in the table above: to run the feature you are using (your town, the weather, the town search, purchases). Nothing is used for advertising, profiling or tracking.
Legal basis (GDPR): performance of the service you asked for (Art. 6(1)(b)) for the town, weather, search and purchases; legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) for finding your town roughly before you choose one.
4. Third-party services
| Service | What it receives | Its policy |
|---|---|---|
| ipwho.is (ipwhois.io) | Your IP address, at start until you choose a town, or when you ask | ipwhois.io privacy policy |
| MET Norway (api.met.no) | Your town's position rounded to about 1 km, app name and version, your IP address; only in Live | met.no privacy statement |
| Apple (Maps geocoding, iPhone and iPad) | The town name you type, only for towns not in the list | apple.com/legal/privacy |
| Apple (App Store, StoreKit) | Purchases on iPhone and iPad | apple.com/legal/privacy |
| Google (Google Play Billing) | Purchases on Android | policies.google.com/privacy |
Ratings: when you have enjoyed a good moment, Monstera may ask your phone to show the system's own rating prompt (Apple or Google). What you do there is handled by Apple or Google.
5. Storage and security on your phone
Everything else stays in Monstera's own app storage on your phone: your plant and its history, its name, your town and realism setting, your room and choices, Settings, the last weather forecast, the coffee count, and the copies of photos you put in frames (a resized copy; the original stays in your photo library, and Monstera only sees the photos you pick). The weekly note when you are away (iPhone and iPad, only if you turn it on) is scheduled on your phone; no server sends it. Every connection the app makes uses encrypted HTTPS. MightyS runs no server for Monstera and keeps no database of users.
6. Your rights (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA)
You have the rights to access, correct, delete, port, restrict and object, to withdraw consent, and to complain to your data protection authority. Because Monstera has no account and we hold no data that identifies you, there is usually nothing for us to look up. Your data is on your phone, and you control it there. For any question, write to contact@mightys.dev; we answer within 30 days. We do not sell personal information.
7. Children
Monstera has no chat, no sharing with other people and no account, and it is not directed at children under 13 (16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
8. Data retention and deletion
- On your phone: kept while Monstera is installed. Deleting the app deletes all of it. If your phone makes backups (for example iCloud Backup or Google backup), a backup you made may still hold a copy; that is under your own Apple or Google account.
- Purchases: Apple and Google keep the record of your purchase under your account; manage or cancel subscriptions in your App Store or Google Play account settings.
- ipwho.is, MET Norway and Apple keep their own request logs under their own policies.
9. Changes
If Monstera starts sending anything new, this page is updated before that version is released, and the date at the top changes.
