What it is

One calm place, in your own tradition

Kandilo is a quiet, respectful daily companion for Orthodox Christian life. It answers the questions that come up every day: what to fast today and why, which feast the Church keeps, who is commemorated, and what the rule of prayer looks like this morning and this evening. One calm place, instead of scattered calendars and printed booklets.

The free tier covers today's fast and the reason for it, the feast and saints of the day, and the core daily prayers, permanently. Kandilo Pro adds the full fasting and feast calendar for a parish, month by month and a year ahead, the complete prayer rule tracked with gentle reminders, and name days and slava remembered for the people who matter.

Fasting guidance inside Kandilo follows the spirit of the Church, not a rule imposed on anyone. For anything personal, the app points back to a priest, the way it should.

15 traditions, both calendars

Kandilo follows the calendar a person actually keeps, across the New (Revised Julian) and Old (Julian) calendars. Fasting rules and feast dates follow whichever tradition is chosen.

Inside Kandilo

Everything a rule of prayer needs.

Six tools that answer one question each, so opening the app never feels like work.

Today

Is today a fast day, what may be eaten, and why, answered in one glance, with the saint of the day right below it.

Calendar

Fasts, feasts, and saints for every day of the year, with the great feasts and Pascha marked, in the tradition chosen.

Prayer

A readable prayer book, a prayer rule that can be checked off morning and evening, and a komboskini counter for the Jesus Prayer.

Saints

The commemorations kept on a given day, with the life of each saint available to read, drawn from public-domain Orthodox sources.

Widget and Siri Shortcut

A home screen widget shows today's fast at a glance, and a Siri shortcut answers the same question out loud.

Morning and Evening Reminders

Gentle reminders for the morning and evening prayer rule, so the rule stays a rule and not a memory.

Under the hood

Why the dates are always current

Fasting rules and feast dates are computed on the device from the calendar rule of the tradition chosen, not fetched from a server. That is why they are always current, and why Kandilo works with no account and no internet connection required for its daily answer.

Prayer texts and the lives of the saints are drawn from public-domain and freely licensed Orthodox sources, credited inside the app under Sources and Acknowledgements. A home screen widget and a Siri shortcut surface the same on-device calculation without opening the app.

Kandilo Pro is available as a subscription, weekly or yearly, or as a one-time Lifetime purchase. The free features described above stay free either way.

Privacy by design

Nothing to collect, because nothing leaves the device
